Volunteering at the W.P. Fraser Herbarium

Do you have some free time and would like to learn new things?

Volunteer in the W. P. Fraser Herbarium
The W. P. Fraser Herbarium welcomes volunteers who would like to help in the enrichment and maintenance of the botanical collection (with about 180,000 specimens) and the herbarium library.

Who can be a volunteer?
Anyone can be a volunteer at the W. P. Fraser herbarium, but we require that people under 18 have at least a high school diploma. Because the volunteer work at the herbarium involves handling dried plants and historical specimens, we prefer that volunteer have some knowledge in botany or horticulture.

We are interested in University Students as volunteers - this is a great opportunity to improve your CV, and give you valuable experience in a university lab setting.

Seniors and retirees people are the most common volunteers in institutions around the world and provide important support for the institutions. We certainly welcome any person interested in volunteering time to work in the herbarium. If you would like to be a volunteer, please complete the on-line request form below.

Do volunteers work on a pre-established schedule?
No. You may work any time from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. The schedule is flexible, and we will make efforts to accommodate the volunteer’s needs. Most of the activities, however, are conducted in the morning from 8:30 am to 1 pm. Because the preparation of specimens is time consuming, we ask you to consider working blocks of at least three hours so that you can complete a good number of specimens during your visit.
